Projects with a story to tell

Every project presents a unique challenge. Explore a selection of case studies that demonstrate creative thinking, craftsmanship and innovation in action.

Plaey @ Abbott Hall Art Gallery, Cumbria

For galleries and museums, reducing exhibition waste remains a significant challenge. In collaboration with designer Matt Kelly of Plaey Design Studio, Lakeland Arts has developed a reusable display system that rethinks how objects and information are presented. Made from interlocking White Pearl Valchromat boxes and plinths, the innovative zero-waste solution provides a sustainable alternative to traditional exhibition fit-outs.

Rycotewood Furniture College

Our long-standing partnership with Rycotewood Furniture Centre gives students the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of innovative materials. Free from convention and established ways of working, they often bring fresh perspectives that lead to unexpected and inspiring results. Toby Bradshaw’s storage cabinet is a perfect example, using a chiselled HIMACS® solid surface finish that evokes the texture of lava or a distant planetary landscape.

Southspace Studio

When Southspace Studio set out to create a contemporary co-working space within a 16th-century Grade II-listed building, balancing modern design with historic character was paramount. The project called for long-grain Birch plywood with a refined decorative finish – a material that had become increasingly difficult to source following the conflict in Ukraine. WISA Birch LG, manufactured in Finland, provided the ideal solution, combining a clean, contemporary aesthetic with full certification and traceable sourcing.

Daisy Lodge, Cong, County Mayo, Ireland

Set on the shores of Lough Corrib in County Mayo, Daisy Lodge is a 30,000 sq ft carbon-neutral therapeutic centre designed to provide respite for children living with cancer and their families. Created as a place to rest, reconnect and make lasting memories, the project brings together thoughtful design and sustainable construction. In partnership with Accsys Technologies, James Latham supplied Accoya cladding, machined and finished at our manufacturing facility in Rochdale, helping bring this remarkable project to life.
